Tara Iti Tales – December 2024

Two tiny chicks have hatched at Waipu keeping the parents busy.
At Papakanui the nesting pair are patiently incubating their eggs, while at Mangawhai things are amazing with 9 chicks hatched with more to come.
At the captive aviary the chicks are sporting their tiny fancy satellite or radio backpacks and new banding bracelets so Rangers can tell them apart. They are practising flapping their wings for lift off, and as the doors are open have rushed out to greet wild fairy terns which pop down to see what is going on.
Three new chicks are growing fast at the zoo.
